He’s a Dogo, but still these dogs get a bad rap (and usually misidentified as a Pit) so Bully breed represent!

That’s what these dogs are bread for. Hunting large dangerous game. Congrats Morocho for being what dogs are meant to be. ‘Mans best friend.’

Back from the Vet

Well after sitting there for well over an hour after our appt, the doc took 5 min to look at Titan, gave him 5 shots and said just feed him more. His heart-worm test came back negative so that was great news. My man did so well, didn’t flinch at the shots nor did he act up in the waiting room. Even when there was a Labrador jumping all over. He did scare the kittens they had out front. He said hi and they said wtf is that?! haha he was just happy to see them. (silly dog loves kitties) So now off to go buy some more dog food and a new toy for him doing so well.

Vet Trip

Well tomorrow (monday) is a big day for Titan, he finally gets to go to the vet for his first check-up sense he’s been with us. I’m worried and excited at the same time. I’ll let everyone know how it goes tomorrow.

Long time no update because nothing really has happened. The days go by and nothing seems to change. Sadly I still can’t seem to get weight on him, but we are trying everything. Also now thanks to my fiancee working at the local shelter we now have some help to get his medical taken care of. I will keep everyone posted.

Well the day has finally arrived, the day when he ignored his abuser to listen and hold command for me. I could have never been more proud, then the 4th of July hit.

I decided to take him to the local parade and see how he did, with people and sirens and what have you. Well let me say this, he took on 3 kids at once! 3 little kids, about 6 years old came crowding around him. He’s never been around children let alone more than one new person at a time. He took it like a champ. He sat down nice a calmly while all the kids were petting his nose and face. Here again, I thought I couldn’t have been more proud. The parade started and the service men walked by, they shot off a blank round right in front of us. Titan didn’t care one bit, though he did enjoy watching the military fly-by. So after that the line of fire trucks went by. Lucky for us they liked Titan and his holiday bandanna. They were nice enough to not blast their horns in front of us. One of the wives even took a picture of him. (I’m trying to find it!) The rest of the event went by great. People ran by and threw candy. None of it phased him at all. His favorite part was when all the ladies came swarming around him. He hammed it up. I’m so very proud of him.

We also recently got a new kitten that we are fostering. (Hence why it took me so long of this.) She is only 4 weeks old and all skin and bones. Titan and her get along great! He’s calmed down a lot sense she came home.

Rex had to be rushed back into the vet again yesterday. The tissue surrounding the sutures has become necrotice, causing it to rot off. This visit is the 5th in the last 6 days. This one alone is costing me $400. This is his third surgery. I’m completely out of money and out of ideas. If you can help donate anything at all, I can’t tell you how much it would mean to me.

Bath Day

Oh joy, everyone’s favorite day. Bath day. Thank the gods I had my fiancee here to help today. The fun part about todays bath was we tired an oatmeal bath. Basically I coated him in an oatmeal mixture. It included oatmeal, aloe vera, tee, and some sage. It smelled good. We will see what happens in a few days after his coat normally starts to dandruff.

The easiest way to give him a bath is to just strip down and jump in with him. We have one of those standing shower stalls. Him being the dork that he is, he kept trying to eat the oatmeal. For once a dog not caring about the water. Well anyway while he was trying to eat the mixture he kept popping the shower door open. The first time he did it he raced out. Of course leaving a trail of oatmeal all over the bathroom. It was so funny. Now that the excitement is over it’s time for a nap for us both.

So Much Fun

I know it’s been a little while sense I’ve updated this, thats because we are having such a good time playing!

I’ve finally got Titan bringing his toy back to play fetch. He’s also now getting a lot more freedom around the house. Well that is until his fat head hits the table spilling water all over. Poor boy flew through the house into his kennel. It took him 2 days to stop pouting. I’m so very proud of all his progress.

Because of the heat we have been having here, (3days in a row in the 90’s!!!!) Training has really been on hold. But, he’s also finally starting to not inhale his food. Great job Titan. I also need a way to make him fat. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Today was a big step and it almost made me cry. For the first time sense having Titan, I got kisses! Just a quick little lick on my nose but kisses none the less. It’s a good day.

Raw Dog Food

Well after doing some research and getting only half of what I wanted, I’m going to strike out and give this a try. Making homemade raw dog food. Lately I’ve been giving him beef added to his kibble. So now to save some money I’m going to try it. When I was buying the packaged chicken sticks I paid $20 for a 10 pound bag, well he needed to eat 2 ounces per ten pounds of body weight. So I went through that bag in less than 2 weeks!!!! That was way out of my budget. So while shopping at my local grocery store I priced beef that was on sale. I could get more than enough for a month of feeding with only about $25. So now he is getting beef with brown rice, and cooked veggies. Also I’m adding an oil supplement as well as a vitamin supplement. We will see how this goes over the next few weeks.

For me the hardest part about helping Titan, (because every dog is different) was the heart break of seeing him still want to go to his abuser. After taking him, loving him, feeding him and healing him, all he could do was drag me across the yard to get to the man that got him into the terrible condition he was in. Another big thing for him was I had to go back and give him manners. All those little things you teach them when he was a puppy, were never taught. He has no concept that you shouldn’t step on people, or not to jump. For the first 3 months I had to just teach him not to run in the house. Now after 7 months I finally have him not pulling on the leash. Lucky for Titan I’ve been working with dogs all my life, so a lot of this is just daily patience. Thank you so much for the wonderful question.

Progress, the Good and the Bad

Well let’s start with the bad parts. Yesterday I let him out for his night time potty break and let him off leash like normal. He just runs out, pees, then comes charging back. Well this time he decided to take off and chase the geese that have taken up residents in our neighbors yard. I yelled and he ignored me. So we took the long way and I had to correct him back over every step he took. He knew he did wrong when I finally got to him, so at least thats some progress. So he is now grounded for a few days. Now onto the good news. During his training today I decided to start his off leash work, as well as a stand command. The stand command is confusing the daylights out of him so we will keep working on it. His off leash went amazingly. Even with the geese in the next yard. I am so proud of him. We will keep working and one of these days I’ll convince my fiancee to come take some pics of him working. It’s hard to do both at once. haha.

I finally figured out one of Titan’s big issues. All this time I’ve been trying to get his coat nice and glossy. Nothing has worked. But because of something silly, I figured out how to fix it. No chicken! I switched him to an all red meat diet. I found this out because we ran out of the good chicken sticks we were feeding him and gave him hamburger meat. After just 2 days of that his coat got this amazing shine! I was so excited.

Well I know it’s been a while, and so much has happened. First of all my brother came to live with us for a little while. Titan did great, the boys got along well. There was one little step backwards. In light of Titan being, well not the brightest crayon in the box, my brother would say things while he was out. He used the dreaded stay word. So to stop the confusion before it started to badly I decided to go slack on some of my work. His training continued and he is at the point where I am starting the beginning stages of off leash. Thats not going so well sense the geese next door have decided to have these little fluffy babies. They drive him nuts. It’s so funny from my point of view but it frustrates him to no end. So now that my brother has left and things are getting back to halfway normal I should be back to posting more. We did however have an amazing trip out to see a good friend. He had a blast on her farm. Today I’m considering taking him on a park adventure. I’ll let you know how it goes.
